Artist Statement
Dale has loved art, especially painting, since he was a child. He loves colors and mixing colors. He has taken various art classes at Stanford University, Smithsonian in Washington DC, Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Colorado, and most important at Compass Atelier in Maryland with Glen Kessler and its Plein Aire course in New Mexico.
Most of Dale’s art is oil paintings of locations and landscapes he has visited and experienced all around the world. This includes landscapes from the US, Asia, Europe, South America, Antarctica, and Arctic. By immersing oneself in the images from spectacular and beautiful places one relives the feelings of being there. Painting is one art form to capture and remember the awe of such beautiful places. For a couple of years while living overseas his hobby included copying dozens of Monet and van Gogh paintings. This helped to understand different color combinations. Learning color theory and color mixing from Glen Kessler has been very useful for understanding mixing, blending colors and for composing paintings.
